AUDIO NEWS RELEASE (ANR)
Q: What is an Audio News Release (ANR)?
A: An Audio News Release (ANR) is a self-contained radio segment that delivers your key messages in a news-style format, typically featuring a narrator, a spokesperson’s soundbite, and a clear call to action. Professionally produced and distributed to radio stations, ANRs help control messaging, build brand awareness, and tell your story in your organization’s own voice.
Q: How long can an Audio News Release (ANR) be?
A: Audio News Releases can be as short as 30 seconds long, with 60 seconds long being the most common and most accepted by radio stations. Firstline can produce and place longer ANRs to accommodate more messaging ranging from 90 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes and even 4+ minutes. The longer formats are especially helpful for Rx branded content with safety information or for longer format storytelling.
Q: Who writes the scripts for Audio News Releases (ANRs)?
A: Firstline welcomes collaboration. We have experienced news veterans on staff who are keen to write a draft script based on your messaging. Alternatively, clients are welcome to send us a draft that we will review, provide feedback and make sure it times out to the length that we need to optimize pickup.
Q: Can you target the distribution and placements for an Audio News Release (ANR)?
A: Yes, ANRs can be targeted to specific DMAs or regions, and can be distributed nationally or tailored to key demographics, including African American and Hispanic audiences.
Q: How long does an Audio News Release (ANR) typically run?
A: ANRs typically run 1–4+ weeks, with the option to extend over longer periods to boost frequency and increase the likelihood of audiences taking action.
Q: Once the distribution period is over, when will I get an audience report?
A: After the last air date, our reporting team will compile a final report that is sent approximately 10 business days later.
Q: What metrics and information are within an Audio News Release (ANR) report?
A: The ANR report will include key information such as air dates, station information, market rank and audience numbers.
Q: Are airchecks of the Audio News Release (ANR) available?
A: No, an Audio News Release is not a spot purchase of airings, it is a purchase of inventory through clearinghouse airtime. We are not given exact times that the ANR will air, therefore we cannot obtain airchecks and stations do not share them.
Q: Can you produce and place an Rx Branded Audio News Release (ANR)?
A: Yes, an ANR is an excellent Rx Branded tactic because it is completely controlled and brand safe, with the ability to include Important Safety Information (ISI). If you are interested in an Rx Branded ANR, please reach out so we can time your ISI and recommend the optimal length.
Q: Can you distribute an Audio News Release (ANR) through streaming radio/podcast platforms?
A: Yes, as listening habits evolve, audiences are increasingly accessing their trusted local news radio stations via streaming platforms so it is a great strategy which also allows for targeting demographically and geographically.
